Where does 420 come from?

The flyer came complete with a 420 back story: "420 started somewhere in San Rafael, California in the late '70s. It started as the police code for Marijuana Smoking in Progress. After local heads heard of the police call, they started using the expression 420 when referring to herb - Let's Go 420, dude!"

ROBERT DOISNEAU GOOGLE DOODLE: French street photographer’s playful brilliance celebrated in birthday logo

“The marvels of daily life are exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street.”
— Robert Doisneau
TOTING HIS TRUSTY CAMERA through the avenues of Paris, viewing the world through the lyrical eye of his Leica, Robert Doisneau gave us thousands of frozen moments of wit and whimsy, innocence and romance. And more often than not, playful story-pictures kissed with poetry.
Today, on its search home-page, Google celebrates the centenary of the popular French photographer with a Doodle that reflects all those aspects of the artist.
There, on the far-right in this photographic quartet, is Doisneau’s most iconic image, “Kiss by the Hotel de Ville (Le baiser de l’hotel de ville),” the stirring liplock that appeared in Life magazine in 1950, featuring a couple of aspiring 20something actors (who would, according to lore, part ways less than a year later).
The image was staged. The romance was real. And the moment’s artistic heat burns still.
“I don't photograph life as it is,” Doisneau famously said, “but life as I would like it to be.”
(Real life, of course, could prove harsher: The woman in the image, Françoise Bornet [nee Delbart], sued Doisneau in 1993 for compensation and royalties; the case was dismissed. The artist died the following year.)
[NEW: To subscribe to Comic Riffs’ public updates on Facebook, you can click HERE.]
Doisneau so frequently found art, though, in the pure and unposed physical exuberance of children at play. Google reflects that by choosing his 1943 photo (at far left in the logo) shot near the Eiffel Tower, titled “Tug on the Champ de Mars (Le remorqueur du Champ de Mars).”
The Doodle is topped by the striking 1971 image “Three little white children, Parc Monceau (Trois petits enfants blancs, parc Monceau),” in which the trio of white-clad kids pass the Parisian monument to writer Guy de Maupassant. And Google — such a fan of Street Views — completes its thoughtful logo curation with 1977’s sad-sweet “Dog on Wheels (Le chien a roulettes).”
“I am not a hunter of pictures,” Doisneau once said. “I am a fisher of pictures.”

Masters 2012: Bubba Watson’s memorable shot brings home the green jacket

The final round of the 2012 Masters had all the drama a golf fan could handle — so much, in fact, that it required two extra holes to determine a winner. But on the par-4 10th, American Bubba Watson produced the one of the most remarkable shots of a tournament full of them. His stunning second shot from the pine straw assured victory South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, and earned the 33-year-old his first green jacket. As Barry Svlurga reported:
Anyone else who walked down the 10th fairway at Augusta National Sunday evening, with the Masters still to be decided, would have seen disaster. Bubba Watson saw only an opening. His ball sat on pine straw, beyond the gallery to the right of the fairway, pines looming over it. Jail.

(Matt Slocum/AP) - Louis Oosthuizen, of South Africa, and his caddie Wynand Stander react after Oosthuizen's double eagle two on the par 5 second hole during the fourth round of the Masters golf tournament Sunday, April 8, 2012, in Augusta, Ga.
(Streeter Lecka/GETTY IMAGES) - Bubba Watson (R) of the United States hugs Ben Crane (L) of the United States after winning his sudden death playoff against Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa on the second playoff hole during the 2012 Masters Tournament by one stroke at Augusta National Golf Club on April 8, 2012 in Augusta, Georgia.
Watson, though, plays a Gumby-like version of golf, able to stretch shots around corners that seem to be square, creating openings where others see walls. “Bubba Golf,” he calls it. Its marketing slogan: If I have a swing, I’ve got a shot. It could be in a Tuesday practice round. It could be in a playoff at the Masters, with South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen — a beautifully straight striker of the ball — looming at the edge of the fairway.
So he did, and he won the Masters because of it. Before he arrived at his ball, he identified a path that others would deem preposterous. He pulled a wedge, and lashed at the ball, keeping it under the limbs, perhaps 15 feet off the ground, watching it rise when it reached the fairway. It then bent to the right, a swing of perhaps 40 yards, and settled on the green. It set up a ludicrous par that was enough to beat Oosthuizen, who himself arrived in the playoff because of his own bit of craziness —a double-eagle 2 at the par-5 second — and finished another wild Sunday at the Masters with Watson’s first major championship.
“I’ve never had a dream go this far,” Watson said.
While Watson’s creativity ruled the day, it was Oosthuizen who provided the rarest of highlights on Sunday at Augusta. AsThomas Boswell wrote:
After covering all these Masters, I was one hole away, following Phil Mickelson, when Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa made his double eagle at the 575-yard par-5 second hole on Easter Sunday at the Masters.
The genuinely miraculous shot, never before accomplished on that long swooping dog-leg-left hole in the previous 76 Masters, instantly vaulted Oosthuizen from third place into a stunning two-shot lead over Phil Mickelson and Peter Hanson.
The pair, playing one group behind, who didn’t even know what had befallen them until they approached the second green and saw that the red “7” with which Oosthuizen had started the day had suddenly transformed itself into a crimson “10.”
Thousands of fans saw The Albatross — which is a stroke better than a mere hole-in-one. The sighting is so rare it’s occurred only four times in all of Masters history, including Gene Sarazen’s famous double-eagle at the 15th in ’35, which led him to a green jacket and helped make the Masters an iconic American event.

Nicki Minaj Stops By The 'Today' Show mtv

Nicki Minaj is ready to hit the road now that the world has its hands on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. She dropped the rap/pop opus this week, and now she just wants to travel the world and chill out with her Barbz and Kenz.
"I don't get the jitters," Minaj said on Friday's (April 6) "Today," where she later performed her RedOne track "Starships." "Honestly, it's a better album [than Pink Friday]. It's so much more well-rounded. It's way more songs. Everything's way more exciting on this album.
"I'm about to start my world tour this year. My fans across seas have been going crazy. I'm just excited more than anything for me is the fact that this album's now done and on the way and I can go see my fans."
She opened up about why she decided to write a song titled "Marilyn Monroe" for the album. The Dr. Luke-produced track is a slower number about her insecurities. "It was just a longing for something, like a longing for approval," Minaj revealed. "And I feel like women in power, successful women as successful as them, they have that desire to still be loved, to still always be great, to still be approved," she explained about using the iconic Hollywood actress as her muse.
Monroe wasn't the only icon Minaj discussed on "Today": She also dished about working with Madonna on her MDNA album, as well as hitting the stage with her to perform at the Super Bowl.
Asked whether she's been influenced by Lady Gaga, Minaj said, " I don't really know Gaga," adding, "But as far as Madonna, I had the pleasure of working with her, and I feel she's really changed and reinvented not only herself, but pop culture. What inspires me about Madonna is that she's able to balance all of this with her family and her personal life, and I told her that.
"She's just everything, and that's what made me so nervous before I went on," she continued about taking the stage at the Super Bowl with seemingly the whole world watching. "At one point, I was literally about to freeze up when I was waiting to go up on the stage — knees shaking, hands freezing cold, everything."

Book Description

July 3, 2010 The Hunger Games (Book 1)
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games," a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed.

    Editorial Reviews

    From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. Reviewed by Megan Whalen Turner
If there really are only seven original plots in the world, it's odd that boy meets girl is always mentioned, and society goes bad and attacks the good guy never is. Yet we have Fahrenheit 451, The Giver, The House of the Scorpion—and now, following a long tradition of Brave New Worlds, The Hunger Games. Collins hasn't tied her future to a specific date, or weighted it down with too much finger wagging. Rather less 1984 and rather more Death Race 2000, hers is a gripping story set in a postapocalyptic world where a replacement for the United States demands a tribute from each of its territories: two children to be used as gladiators in a televised fight to the death.Katniss, from what was once Appalachia, offers to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, but after this ultimate sacrifice, she is entirely focused on survival at any cost. It is her teammate, Peeta, who recognizes the importance of holding on to one's humanity in such inhuman circumstances. It's a credit to Collins's skill at characterization that Katniss, like a new Theseus, is cold, calculating and still likable. She has the attributes to be a winner, where Peeta has the grace to be a good loser. It's no accident that these games are presented as pop culture. Every generation projects its fear: runaway science, communism, overpopulation, nuclear wars and, now, reality TV. The State of Panem—which needs to keep its tributaries subdued and its citizens complacent—may have created the Games, but mindless television is the real danger, the means by which society pacifies its citizens and punishes those who fail to conform. Will its connection to reality TV, ubiquitous today, date the book? It might, but for now, it makes this the right book at the right time. What happens if we choose entertainment over humanity? In Collins's world, we'll be obsessed with grooming, we'll talk funny, and all our sentences will end with the same rise as questions. When Katniss is sent to stylists to be made more telegenic before she competes, she stands naked in front of them, strangely unembarrassed. They're so unlike people that I'm no more self-conscious than if a trio of oddly colored birds were pecking around my feet, she thinks. In order not to hate these creatures who are sending her to her death, she imagines them as pets. It isn't just the contestants who risk the loss of their humanity. It is all who watch. Katniss struggles to win not only the Games but the inherent contest for audience approval. Because this is the first book in a series, not everything is resolved, and what is left unanswered is the central question. Has she sacrificed too much? We know what she has given up to survive, but not whether the price was too high. Readers will wait eagerly to learn more.
Megan Whalen Turner is the author of the Newbery Honor book The Thief and its sequels, The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia. The next book in the series will be published by Greenwillow in 2010.

    From School Library Journal

Grade 7 Up -In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss's young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives. Collins's characters are completely realistic and sympathetic as they form alliances and friendships in the face of overwhelming odds; the plot is tense, dramatic, and engrossing. This book will definitely resonate with the generation raised on reality shows like 'Survivor' and 'American Gladiator.' Book one of a planned trilogy.Jane Henriksen Baird, Anchorage Public Library, AK

Obat Mujarab Untuk Penyakit Mag Tukak Lambung

Cincau ternyata mampu menuntaskan masalah lambung. Tanamannya sederhana dan mudah ditemukandi sekitar kita. silahkan baca iklanya sambb

Penyakit mag tergolong bandel.

Dalam The Merck Index, an Encyclopedia of Chemicals and Drugs edisi ke-6 disebutkan, achlorhydria mengakibatkan penderita mengalami radang selaput lendir lambung dan kerongkongan sehingga kesulitan menelan, merasa mual, muntah-muntah, dahaga, dan diare.

Penanggulangan rasa sakit penderita mag memang belum banyak dilakukan.

Mengandung zat antiradang

Tumbuhan camcau menyimpan senyawa campuran alkaloid bersifat rumit.
